Celebration of Smiles is a charitable event that invites you to receive the gift of a mini-session and a 5×7 desk-size image from Cheeky Monkeys Portrait Studio, in exchange for a minimum donation of $24 to Operation Smile. Just choose a location and select your session time to make a difference in a child’s life.

100% of each donation will go to support the work of Operation Smile, which provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the world.

Because the medical and support staff of Operation Smile volunteer their services, it costs as little as $240 to perform a simple cleft lip surgery. For every 10 sessions that our studio photographs during the Celebration of Smiles promotion, one precious child will receive the life-changing gift of surgery.

Around the world, it’s very common for children not to survive that first year of life because of these ailments,” said Dr. Mark Handelin, an orthodontist at Pitts Orthodontics in Reno. The cleft lip and palate makes eating and breathing more difficult. But many children die because the birth defect is not fully understood in developing countries. “In a lot of these countries, they believe if the babies aren’t born perfect or with an abnormality like this that they are possessed,” said Handelin. “The death rate does go up a lot because a lot of these babies are left or they’re just neglected by their mothers.” But it doesn’t have to be that way. “It’s a relatively straight forward procedure to do,” said Handelin. “It just takes man power and it takes funds.”

That is how your smile can help. With the simple click of a camera, Nicola Borland of Cheeky Monkeys Portrait Studio, along with the doctors at Temple City Dental Care and Innate Family Chiropractic in Pasadena, are looking to raise money for Operation Smile.

Who and what can these images be used for?

Cheeky Monkeys Portrait Studio is a kids portrait studio based in Pasadena.  We love kids, and the big ones too.  Although the studio only photographs kids for our event days, we are opening the Celebration of Smiles event to adults and pets too!  We can photograph up to a family of 5, kids only, pets and their owners, and headshots.  Babies who cannot sit by themselves must be photographed with an adult. If they are able to sit up on their own, they can be photographed solo.
Need a new family portrait, a new simple headshot, facebook profile, update a portrait of each child, make a hit with gifts to the grandparents and more?

Our Partners:

We are so excited to partner with two great companies to host the event this year.  Temple City Dental Care and Innate Family Chiropractic of Pasadena.

logo-web-new-01PINIMAGEDo you want gentle dentistry that is comfortable, convenient and totally focused on you and your smile? You’ll find it at Temple City Dental Care in the heart of Temple City, CA. At Temple City Dental Care, we focus on you. Dr Jack Von Bulow was born, raised, and still lives just outside of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Valley; he’s practiced restorative dentistry there for over 30 years. Dr. V’s practice intention is “making a world-class difference for others and making dentistry fun.” In that context, Dr. V and team are involved in as many as six to seven community projects per year. We are excited to make Celebration of Smiles one of those community projects.

CircleIFClogo_purplePINIMAGEDr. Chris and Dr. Adana of Innate Family Chiropractic are a husband and wife team of Chiropractors. They met while in school at Cleveland Chiropractic College, Los Angeles. During their school days, they formed a vision of a family based practice. Innate was established in 2010 and since then has been the leading family chiropractic practice in the community. Both Dr. Chris and Dr. Adana are certified by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) to practice the Webster Technique. Additionally, they are certified Pediatric Chiropractors by the National Wellness Foundation.  As a member of the Pasadena community Innate Family Chiropractic is focused on bringing smiles back to those who are out of alignment, and partnering with Cheeky Monkeys and Operation Smile is another great way to bring those smiles out.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER SUPPORTS “CELEBRATION OF SMILES DAY”
TO BENEFIT OPERATION SMILE

PASADENA, CA, February 23, 2017 – On April 1 and 6 local photographer Nicola Borland of Cheeky Monkeys Portrait Studio will join with PPA Charities (the philanthropic arm of Professional Photographers of America) to promote “Celebration of Smiles Day.” This national fundraising effort will benefit Operation Smile, which treats children around the world who suffer from cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

On that day, participating photographers will offer the gift of an individual portrait session and a desk-size portrait in exchange for a minimum $24 donation to Operation Smile. This donation represents one tenth of $240, the amount needed to help fund a single surgery. According to Michigan photographer, Lori Craft, President of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), “Celebration of Smiles Day” is the perfect opportunity to have your portrait made or that of a loved one, because in doing so you are making it possible to truly change the lives of children who would otherwise face a lifetime of pain and rejection.”

Founded in 1982, Operation Smile is a worldwide children’s medical charity dedicated to helping children and young adults born with facial deformities. In as little as 45 minutes, one cleft lip surgery can change a child’s life forever. Every three minutes a child somewhere in the world is born with a facial deformity. One in ten will not survive to see their first birthday. Those who do survive often live in isolation and pain. Each year, more than 100,000 children are born with a facial deformity in Operation Smile’s 26 partner countries. Tens of thousands remain untreated.

“Recording smiles is what photographers do,” says photographer Tina Timmons, who serves as president of the PPA Charities Board of Trustees, and who was instrumental in developing the Celebration of Smiles promotion. “It’s hard to imagine a more appropriate charity for our members to support. And when parents participate in this event, it’s a wonderful way to teach children the value of reaching out to others. Even small children can understand the importance of Operation Smile’s work, and they are eager to help these needy children.”
